The fuel driven technology in ventilation worked many times well under certain conditions, but the downside was its sensitivity to turbulence. Windows or doors that opened in the wrong places could put ventilation completely out of place. Proposal for sealed windows and doors were hence presented, but it was rejected as drastic measures. Another drawback was the pollution from all fired furnaces needed to vent the houses, which further burdened the dirty city air.
