Russell Gilchrist is the Design Director & Practice Leader (tall buildings) for Gensler in Shanghai, China. He has worked and completed projects in 4 continents, including large scale mixed use developments and in many other practice areas including museum, cultural centres and wineries. He has been involved on numerous sustainable high performance designs across a number of practice areas in across Asia, including China, HK, India, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam. Russell was previously a director at ASGG in Chicago working on the firm’s super-tall and high-performance projects around the world. He left the UK in 2006 to join the Chicago office of SOM where he was both Director of Technical Architecture and Practice Leader and oversaw amongst other projects the execution and the design of Pearl River Tower, the world’s most sustainable super-tall building in Guangzhou, China. He has published and lectured internationally on sustainability and tall buildings and is an active on the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) and has just co-authored a paper at the 2012 Congress in Shanghai and recently a chapter called ‘Towards Energy Independence’. He is currently an Advisory Board Member for CTBUH.
