New homes rarely performs as well as their designers expect. Findings from Innovate UK´s four-year Building Performance Evaluation (BPE) shows that on average non-domestic buildings use 3,6 times more energy than predicted by designers. The results are broadly the same for residential houses. The indoor air quality (IAQ) and overheating concers are reported in many of buildings.
The BPE showed that we are able to “design tight”. We haven´t yet learned to “ventilate right”.
