Olli Seppänen is the former Secretary General of REHVA and editor-in-chief of the REHVA Journal “The REHVA European Journal of Heating, Ventilating and Air-conditioning” Technology since 2008. He was member of the REHVA board from 2000 to 2008 and president from 2005 to 2008. He served as the professor of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning at Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, 1982-2008, Finland. Seppänen has worked for over 25 years in the research of energy performance of buildings and indoor environment, and many building energy efficiency related projects, both national and international. He has supervised over 250 Master´s Theses and 20 PhD-level theses. He has authored five university level text books related to energy performance of buildings, and published more than 300 scientific and technical papers, and been invited as speaker in numerous international and national events. He is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals. Olli Seppänen has worked also in the USA as a consult (Ekono Inc, Seatle, WA) and a scientist (Kansas State University, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, CA).
Olli Seppänen is a founding member of international scientific organisation “International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ)”, and its former President (1994-1997). He has also served as the president of Finnish Association of HVAC societies and FINVAC since 1995. He has been the president of several international conferences: Indoor Air 1993, Healthy Buildings 2000, RoomVent 2007, and president of the scientific committee of the Clima 2007 congress. He is also a fellow of REHVA and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) from which he received the Louise and Bill Holladay distinguished fellow award in 2003 for his work in the area of energy performance of buildings and indoor climate. In 2006 he received Rockwool Indoor Climate Prize. In 2009 German Engineering Organisation VDI awarded Seppänen for his work in Europe. In 2009 Riga Technical University honoured prof Seppänen with degree of Doctor (HC). He received REHVA Gold Medal in 2012. He has participated as an expert in several European scientific and regulatory projects related energy efficiency and indoor environment of buildings.
