This book was created for building a bridge between the real estate community and the engineering community. It explains the challenges of property valuation based on real data and how the sustainability and HVAC-technology can have an impact on value.
HVAC in Sustainable Office Buildings gathers the latest HVAC and other technologies used in sustainable buildings and gives some real case study examples. Maybe the most important part in terms of improved communication between the owners and engineers is the list of questions to be asked during the life time of a building. It is impossible to give the right answers in this book, but we can raise some pertinent questions. As climates and cultures are different, as well as existing building types and energy production, the same solutions do not solve problems universally.
HVAC and other mechanical systems have an impact on indoor environment quality, but also on energy consumption and required maintenance. People’s health and comfort sensation is greatly influenced by the indoor environment’s quality. Therefore the selection and control strategy of indoor
environment parameters are one of the key issues when designing sustainable buildings. The amount of energy used in buildings depends on the climate, on the building type and design, on the HVAC-system design as well as on tenant’s activities.
