Swegon Air Academy – Twenty years of knowledge that has shaped the indoor climate world
Knowledge sharing never ends with Swegon Air Academy. This year, we celebrate two decades of knowledge sharing that have shaped the indoor climate world and made a difference for the people inside. We strive for a deep understanding and believe that no insights are too small, as every detail counts.
Within Swegon Air Academy, knowledge in all formats on the topics of indoor climate and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) is highly valued. Over the years, the multifaceted effects of various indoor parameters have been explored, always with a big lens perspective and every now and then with a magnifying glass to see the smallest details and their impact.
From air quality to healthy indoor environments, from ventilation to building systems and from scientific findings to industry partnerships, Swegon Air Academy shares knowledge about indoor climate, ventilation and people's well-being in buildings.

What knowledge topics are explored, learned and shared?
At its core, all indoor climate and IEQ topics are interesting and relevant to the Swegon Air Academy, and over the years, so much has been presented, discussed and published. Here are just a few examples of what has been shared over the last twenty years:
- The most recent legislations have been assessed and key understandings gathered. As an example, in 2025, the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) has been reviewed to thoroughly learn how the building industry now has to consider energy performance and indoor environmental quality together and equally.
- Emerging technologies have been analysed and Swegon Air Academy has indicated how these can lead to new perspectives and applications across the entire HVAC industry, and the Air Academy has always highlighted the people perspective in these developments.
- SAA has continuously supported all research and development regarding children's performance and health in the school environment. We strongly believe that ensuring a good indoor climate from an early age has a significant impact on every person’s life, and sharing knowledge on schools and indoor climate has therefore been a top priority.
- Throughout, Swegon Air Academy has grown in its thinking about how to connect sustainability, circularity, and resilience in the building and HVAC sectors. Most recently the focus has been on how to prepare buildings for meeting the unexpected.
- How to future-proof buildings so they can remain the key element in protecting people. During these years, the 'indoor generation' has emerged, and the Air Academy has gained great attraction as it has stood firmly with its statement that safe and healthy indoor environments where people can work, live, rest and recuperate without harm are of utmost importance, always.
- The digital transformation has shaped the industry and developed rapidly. This has long been at the top of SAA's agenda, and we have shared HVAC expertise on how modern buildings and digitalisation, with monitoring of indoor climate parameters, can significantly contribute to solving challenges within energy, sustainability and indoor comfort.
- At the time of writing, the Air Academy is following policy makers closely in pursuing smart building readiness and focusing on reducing the embodied carbon footprint of building technical installations.
- Each and every one of the indoor climate parameters has always sparked the interest of Swegon Air Academy. Daylight and natural light, low humidity levels and excess moisture, low frequency noise and monotonous sound are some of the pinpointed indoor climate implications which research and technology are effectively addressing, and the Air Academy is curiously exploring.
The above-mentioned are just some of the very important topics that Swegon Air Academy has pinpointed and supported in recent years. If short-listing other areas that we believe are essential for the longevity of buildings and people, we would mention: building standards and certifications; infiltration and air change; understanding respiratory issues and allergies; sick building syndrome and other building-related challenges; as well as passive house developments and net-zero-energy building targets. Sleep quality and daytime performance are interesting from a people's perspective, just as air pollution and particle matter are. Indoor climate and architectural aspects, renovation and energy challenges in apartment buildings, the evolution of cooling, nZEB and energy-efficient HVAC systems, green building economics, and so much more capture our interest on a daily basis.
How the knowledge is shared
Over time, the Swegon Air Academy website has updated its platform and grown in its content sharing. In 2025, it is no surprise that this is the primary source and channel for all SAA activities and publications. Updates & Insights should, in this context, be both mentioned and recommended – continuous additions to knowledge ensure that everyone can stay tuned and remain relevant in the HVAC world.
Today, SAA loves webinars, but we started back in the day with full-day seminars featuring impressive lineups of speakers who delved into deep-diving topics. Both webinars and seminars have been a core part of sharing our insights and expertise, and the webinars continue to be highly appreciated by our partners and other stakeholders. More webinars are in the works – stay tuned.
Numerous articles and journals have been published, and on the shelf we find an array of published books related to indoor climate, energy efficiency, building systems, environmental certifications and more. The most well-known and comprehensive book is the AIR Swegon Air Academy.
In the very recent history of Swegon Air Academy, a Think Tank has been formed to discuss indoor climate and HVAC-related topics with industry and/or academic participants. We dare to say that this forum gathers a unique mix of expertise, and we believe that each partner in this forum would join in saying, 'sharing is caring'.
What we have described so far is the multifaceted platform Swegon Air Academy has become; no knowledge is too small, as every detail counts. With that said, it becomes evident that experts from SAA can join nearly any conversation, seminar, lecture, visit, etc., connected to indoor climate and indoor environmental quality. SAA aims to continue on this path and hopes to increase the understanding of indoor climate and IEQ, as well as pave the way for further discussions and more effective dialogues among legislators, researchers, property owners, architects, engineers, consultants, manufacturers, HVAC contractors and more.
Knowledge never goes out of style
The vast amount of information shared by Swegon Air Academy, along with the many ways to interact with the platform, allows all stakeholders to create their own learning path. Topics are interlinked and insights are shared in different formats – it is just a matter of picking and choosing out of interest.
Yes, topics can become outdated, and sometimes research takes new turns. The fact that Swegon Air Academy is continuously updated doesn't mean that all available content is completely new and only holds the latest findings. We value the historic milestones and have also realised that topics come and go over time, just like any fashion trend. That's why SAA continues to be a place to go for the timeless topics and discover the new.
